About How Are You Mom
How Are You Mom is a monthly support group for people caring for aging parents. We provide a safe, judgment-free space where members can share experiences, get support, and connect with others who also understand the challenges of caregiving.
Groups meet via Zoom and are limited to 6 people to ensure everyone has time to share.
Our groups are for anyone caring for an aging parent, whether you're:
- Managing care from afar
- Starting/anticipating starting to navigate the caregiving journey
- Just generally have your parents on your mind more than before
How It Works
You're matched with a small group of 5 other people who meet on the same day each month (for example, "the 4th Wednesday of the month at 1pm"). Sessions are 1 hour via Zoom.
Between sessions, you can connect with your group via Telegram.
Each session has a HAYM facilitator and follows a light structure. We ask members to arrive at least 5 mins prior to the actual start of the session to say hi to other members and to ensure a punctual start. We begin with a brief "conversation starter" and then move to check-ins from each person. We then open the floor for discussion.
During the discussion you can talk about what's on your mind or simply listen. There's no pressure to speak if you're not ready. Sessions are confidential and judgment-free.
Life happens! If you miss the meeting, you'll receive a recap of what was discussed (without personal details). Since there's no support in a support group if there's no group, we encourage members not miss more than 2 sessions in 12 months. Members who miss more may be asked to find a time slot that more consistently accommodates their schedule.
Yes! You can change groups by clicking "My Account", accessing your dashboard, and moving your session to an open group. While we do ask members to try to stick with their group for the first 3 sessions (3 months), since it takes time for groups to gel, you can indeed move to another group that has availability.
We have found that people prefer meetings during daylight hours. Members are more alert during that time whereas, at the end of the day, they are sometimes more mentally tired and also may have obligations (commutes, family, etc) that can impede attendance.
However, if your schedule doesn't permit these times, please join the waitlist and indicate your preferred time. We'll contact you as soon as we have a group for that time.
Getting started is easy! Visit our Support Groups page, choose a session time that works for you, and complete the sign-up process.
You'll receive a confirmation email with Zoom details and information about your group. Your first session is a great opportunity to meet your group members and get comfortable with the format.

Important Information
No, How Are You Mom is not therapy, and your facilitator is not a licensed therapist. We're a peer support group where members can share experiences and support each other.
While our sessions can be incredibly helpful for emotional well-being, they're not a substitute for professional mental health treatment. If you're experiencing severe depression, anxiety, or are in crisis, we encourage you also to seek professional psychiatric help.
